The Creative Cusp is an ongoing series of writing workshops designed to inspire writers of all levels. A participating writer can expect to actively engage in a weekend full of writing exercises led by experienced writers.

At your Creative Cusp workshop you’ll get to experiment with new ways to begin the creative process. You’ll get a chance to play with the environment, with subtle features and obvious ones, with the explicit and the implicit, with the profane and the sublime, with strangers and with each other.

Guest writers will share and explore their own methods and will contribute writing exercises that get the group moving, exploring, talking and writing in the Ocean Beach setting. Participants will be asked to write throughout the day and will also have the opportunity to share their written words with the group.

By the end of each weekend workshop, a small community of writers will be born. You’ll have new fans, new interests, maybe even new arch-enemies. It’s our dream to eventually see a vibrant community of San Diego writers who support, challenge and promote one another.

What’s the deal?

6-10 free-writing exercises/activities.
One-on-one time with experienced writers and publishers.
Analysis of your writing process with tips on how to get better at your craft.
An opportunity to submit your work to La Chingadera, The Creative Cusp’s Quarterly.
A sense of community: develop relationships with publishers, experienced writers and other participating writers.

What if I’m not good enough?

Writers at all writing levels will be participating in the workshops. Every level of experience (or lack of experience) is welcome. If you are unsure about your work, feel free to send us an email and a sample of your writing. We will look it over and give you some feedback.

What if I’m a little bit shy and/or nervous about participating?

We will let you know (in advance) exactly what we expect from a participant. You will not be blindsided and we will not embarrass you. The entire weekend will be very casual - we want you to relax and be yourself! If you’re shy - that’s ok, we are too!

I’ve been published, will this workshop be worth my time?

Writers of all experience levels will be in attendance. Building relationships with other writers is always a plus. You can never have too many readers for your work, right? And you never know who you’re going to meet. If you think you have the stuff, send us an email so we can discuss your role as a Guest writer.

Participant Fee is $99 per weekend.
